I can’t remember how I stumbled upon Betty Magazine but I do remember recently adding them to my Instagram feed. It is their monthly events run in trendy London locations that had me intrigued where 40 or so readers can attend and have a night out. Previous events have included a showcase of independent and local lifestyle brands, who have been able to showcase their products in a high end setting. For Beauty School Dropout Betty had organised Mayfair Salon, Jo Hansford, to do our hair, Cheeky Parlour to give us a paint and polish on our nails and Tabby Casto to update our makeup.
Each ticket included two drinks tokens and we had fresh donuts from Vicky’s Donuts. These were the most delicious donuts I have ever had and a visit to her stall at Chatsworth Markets on a Sunday has been added to the list. I heard sometimes Vicky makes Pina Colada flavoured ones! Emma Block was also on hand to do a miniature watercolor portrait. I envied her skills and ease to capture her subject in a few strokes of a paintbrush and this would make a lovely Christmas present for the hard to buy person in your life.
The most interesting, interactive experience of the night was with Gorilla Perfumes who paired chocolates with their scents. Working closely with a chocolatier in Edinburgh, they have developed sweet treats that change the experience and main notes of the perfume as you eat. It was a really interesting experience learning how taste can alter the scent and its impression on you. Gorilla love to create events with their perfumes and recently bought their scents to life through a screening of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. For the scene when Charlie finds the golden ticket the audience ate chocolate bars with popping candy to recreate the excitement and energy Charlie was feeling. Later in the movie when the Oompa Loompa’s appeared orange balloons scented with Gorilla perfume were dropped from the ceiling. Sounds like great fun!
Betty magazine is an independent, lifestyle publication and blog that aims to share fashion, food and at home products that are accessibly not unattainable. They advertise their events on instagram so follow and I’ll see you at the Christmas event!
